Another Eco-Village, DARA GAON, about 10 Km. from Kalimpong, is added to Eastern Himalayas Village Tourism. Connected by well maintained road, DARA GAON is situated in the vicinity of Delo Park and hardly to reach 30 minutes from Kalimpong by a car. The place is called UPPER ECHEY also.

On 25th December 2015 as we reached DARA GAON from NJP at about 2.30 p.m. Mt. Kanchenjunga exposed to us with its great panoramic beauty. Mr. Yakin Lamichaney, owner of GREEN HILL RETREAT Homestay, welcomed us with his family and arranged for a delicious lunch quickly. We were very much inundated by this kind of hospitality and charming panoramic view of Kanchenjunga.
After lunch we were out for a village walk. There are some beautiful bungalow-pattern private house/homestays, many unknown flowers and trees, lush greeneries in a calm and quiet atmosphere fascinated us.

Now it's time to celebrate X-mas party with Barbecue, Mr. Lamichaney arranged specially for us. Our friend Mr. D.K. Khawas came from Echey Gaon to join the party and other local friends of Mr. Lamichaney joined the party. Dancing with Hindi, Nepalese songs, performing Guitar by a local young chap and our youngsters had brighten up the party and also made us warm in such a cold weather of 5 to 6 degree celcius.

At about 11 p.m. Party was over and we took our dinner with Chapatti and delicious Chicken Kosa prepared by Yakin's family. As the temperature came down further we went to our bed wrapping with double blankets to save ourselves from bites of cold wave and fell asleep with the memorable Christmas evening.

Next Day (26th Dec'15) morning appearance of Golden Kanchenjunga mesmerized our eyes with sunrays on its peaks, attraction of which draws us to this region again and again.

After having breakfast with tasty Chowmin we started for our next destination 'Charkhole' leaving the picturesque village DARA GAON. Yakin, with his family and neighbours, bid farewell to us with the request to visit again. Yakin's hospitality and attitude towards guest is much cordial and the facilities of Homestay is very much satisfactory.
Like other places DARA GAON will emerge as a new destination in Village Tourism with its location, atmosphere and natural beauty in Darjeeling Himalaya.
